In the north-east of the Gard where the Rhône meets the Cèze, you’ll find Bagnols-sur-Cèze, a lovely town boasting a Mediterranean climate.
This town in the Gard enjoys the ideal geographic location. It lies near the Vaucluse, the Ardèche and the Drôme, and is the starting point from multiple trips into the Cévennes and Provence. The sunshine, the pleasant climate and the rich and diverse plant life (garrigue, olive trees, fruits trees and so on) make the area very appealing to tourists.
The town’s economic and cultural activity, which already prospered thanks to wine-growing, silk and leather goods, was boosted with the installation of a nuclear plant in 1955. Since then, the town’s population has grown from 5,000 to almost 20,000.
In addition to the surrounding area, the town of Bagnols-sur-Cèze has a lot to offer. For history and culture buffs, there are plenty of great sites worth a visit:
Finally, if you want to cool off or take a dip, head to the beach at Carmignan. There you can enjoy a swim or go canoeing on the Cèze.
