The Gard: a land of festivals

Are you a festival fan? The Les Cascades campsite can recommend 9 festivals not to be missed in the Gard this summer!

1. The Festival of Nîmes

The Festival of Nîmes is the biggest musical event in the Gard. Inaugurated in 1997, the Festival sets up in the Arena in June and July for a series of concerts in a dazzling atmosphere.

As for the music, you’ll find every style from pop, rock and rap to French standards, classical music, and more... there really is something for everyone! Featuring a star-studded cast of artists! In 2022, for example, Gorillaz, Orelsan, Foo Fighters and PNL all put on a spectacular show in the Roman amphitheatre.

2. This Is Not A Love Song

June is decidedly a very musical month in Nîmes! At the start of the month, the iconic Paloma hall hosts This Is Not A Love Song, a festival with a very warm atmosphere. Over three days, 50 or so independent artists perform on four different stages.

In just six editions, This Is Not A Love Song has already built up a reputation for its quality programming and is now a highlight on the musical calendar of the Gard.

3. Jazz à Junas

Is jazz your thing? Then you should take a trip to Jazz à Junas during your holiday at our campsite in the Gard! This festival has been held every July since 1993, providing some lively entertainment in the pretty Gard village of Junas. Over five days, the village’s loveliest sites, such as the Junas quarries, the squares, the garrigue and the temple are transformed into concert venues.

In addition, there is a unique programme featuring local, national and international artists. An experience unlike any other, both for the audience and the performers.

4. Les Nuits Musicales d’Uzès

After Nîmes in June, in July it’s Uzès’ turn to strike up the band! This begins with Les Nuits Musicales, a festival that most notably showcases Baroque, classical, traditional and jazz music.

Held in the second half of July, the concerts are performed in some of the former Duchy’s most beautiful locations, including the church, the temple and the cathedral. The promise of a spectacular show... for your eyes and your ears!

5. Les Électros d’Uzès

After Les Nuits Musicales, in August it’s time for Les Électros d’Uzès. As its name suggests, this festival is entirely devoted to electro music with a programme featuring both big names and rising stars.

Held in early August for the past 20 years, the Électros d’Uzès has become one of the highlights of the French electro scene.

6. Les Transes Cévenoles

If you come to our campsite in the Gard, we highly recommend a trip into the Cévennes. The range of mountains is a well-known natural haven but also a cultural hotspot, as demonstrated by Les Transes Cévenoles.

Every July, the town of Sumène plays host to this very welcoming festival. The programme is rich and varied, because it offers concerts of contemporary and world music, as well as theatre and street art performances.

7. Fest’in Zone

Fest’in Zone is a very family-friendly festival. Held in Le Grau-du-Roi, it includes concerts, street performances and street art.

What sets it apart from other festivals, however, are the workshops designed to raise public awareness of environmental issues. For this commitment, Fest’in Zone is definitely worth checking out.

8. Zion Garden

It’s great that there are so many festivals around the Gard. What’s even better are the festivals near the Les Cascades campsite! Take, for example, the Zion Garden, a reggae festival held in Bagnols-sur-Cèze.

The event is made possible by its many volunteers and is renowned for its relaxed atmosphere and a programme that always goes down well with the public.

9. La Goud’Vibe

Again not far from our Les Cascades campsite, there is the La Goud’Vibe event. This lively festival is held at the end of July in the picturesque village of Goudargues. It offers concerts and street performances from morning till night, from Friday to Sunday. The Friday evening also includes a lovely market for you to explore.

So don’t miss La Goud’Vibe, a festival steeped in the wonderful warm atmosphere that characterises such events in the south of France. A celebration where the whole family can enjoy the entertainment and have great fun.
