Montclus, a village brimming with charm in the heart of the Gard

Tucked away in a meander of the Cèze, discover the village of Montclus, overlooked by its medieval keep. A visit steeped in the fragrances of nature, among walls loaded with history.

A village nestled between mountains and river

Like La Roque-sur-Cèze, where you’ll find our Les Cascades campsite, Montclus is officially listed as one of the “Most Beautiful Villages of France”. In this little village surrounded by vineyards and lavender fields, lose yourself in the narrow streets lined with white houses and lush greenery.

The Pont du Moulin bridge, built in 1870 to cross the Cèze, adds an extra touch of charm to the fairytale views of Montclus.

In fact, the village’s name is rooted in its hilltop position surrounded by mountains, “Castrum Montecluso” in Latin.

What to see and do in Montclus

Head for the Place des Aires, a square in the heart of the medieval village. It is the venue for all your holiday entertainment, with markets, village patronal celebrations, and other events.

Be sure to visit the keep of the old fortress dating from 1275 and the Benedictine monastery founded by the Templars.

Not far from there, you can also see the small church of Montclus, restored in 1996. If you enjoy nature walks, visit the Mas du Grand Galès agricultural estate, reached along a path lined with fruit trees.
