The Cascades du Sautadet, an extraordinary geological site

Fall under the spell of the Cascades du Sautadet, an emblematic natural beauty spot in the Gard, close to La Roque-sur-Cèze, one of the “Most Beautiful Villages in France”. If you are on holiday at the Yelloh! Village Les Cascades campsite, you’ll be staying in stunning surroundings.

The Cascades du Sautadet, a natural work of art…

Deep in the heart of the mystical River Cèze in the Gard, you will find a set of crucibles and cauldrons. No, we’re not talking about witches’ utensils but the cavities and crevices dug out in the limestone rock by the swirling waters of the Cascades du Sautadet. The Cèze rushes into these channels, then gradually descends 15 metres in a series of waterfalls over several dozen metres.

Seated above the waterfalls, you’ll find the foundations of an old mill dating back to 1881!

Purely for your contemplation

The more daring among you may be disappointed but it is forbidden to bathe in the waters here and access on foot is restricted, as it is very dangerous. In fact, the waterfalls are nicknamed “the devil’s leap”. There is even a local saying that translates as “At La Roque, the devil bites”.

Fortunately, on the left back a little further down from the waterfalls, a beach has been developed where you can enjoy the coolness of the river in a more carefree setting. Our Les Cascades campsite at La Roque-sur-Cèze benefits from direct and privileged access to the river. An ideal opportunity for a swim before you admire the enchanting Cascades du Sautadet. But stay safe!
